“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace…”. Galatians 5:22
People run here and there searching after peace, but do we really know what we’re looking for? What is peace?
Simply put, peace is the absence of conflict. Conflict is everywhere. We’re conflicted inside ourselves. We’re in conflict with others. We’re conflicted about our circumstances. We need peace. I think the Spirit is able to impart peace in just about any kind of circumstance. He can produce peace whether we’re struggling to live a holy life (Galatians 5:17) or to “live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:18), or to just make it through tough circumstances in life (John 14:25-31). If this were all though, we’d miss the most important peace there is.
Did you know that all of us either are, or were in conflict with God Himself? Isaiah 53:5 puts it this way: “But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.” If you read the whole chapter, you can easily see the prophetic reference to the cross of Jesus. Jesus was the one who was pierced for our transgressions (sins). He was crushed for our iniquities. His punishment brought us peace. His sacrifice ended our conflict with God.
John 3:18 says, “Whoever believes in him [Jesus] is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.” All of us stand condemned because of our sins. God is perfectly holy. Our sin separates us from him. Sin is the reason for our conflict with God. But there is a way of peace. There is way to healing. There’s a way to avoid an eternal conflict with God. It’s the cross of Jesus Christ. Jesus paid the price for our sin.
My son wrote a song that says it so well. His song, “It Was You” says “It was you. It couldn’t have been me that rose three days later and set us all free. Yeah, it was you, it couldn’t have been us, that beat death and Hell and drank the wrath of God.” Only Jesus could beat death and Hell and set us all free. Only he could satisfy the wrath of God…for me. Jesus brought me peace.
How about you? Do you realize you’re in conflict with God? Do you know he made a way of peace? Jesus is the way. All you have to do is accept the sacrifice that Jesus made for your sins. Just ask him to. That simple act of faith is enough to put you at peace with God forever. When you do God will give you the Holy Spirit to guide you. Then you can experience his peace in all those other areas of life too. But first, you need to be at peace with God.
Think about it, then Get Real Love.
